Glacier Microelectronics

A relatively quiet startup up to now, Glacier Microelectronics, is starting to be noticed on the radar screen as it begins to market its synthesizer IC family of products.  Noteworthy is the fact that Al Stein is on the board of directors along with company management.  Stein previously served at VLSI Technology as chairman of the board and CEO  from 1982 until its acquisition by Philips Electronics in 1999.  Earlier in his career, he held executive positions at Arrow Electronics, TI and Motorola.

Glacier was founded by Paul McCambridge in February 2006.  A 23-year veteran of the RF industry, McCambridge held career stints at Xindium as VP of products, Tropian as business development manager, Applied Signal Technology, and at VLSI Technology prior to its acquisition by Philips as a product marketer.  He holds the roles of CEO, business development and sales.

Recently, the company announced a family of AnyFrequency™ PLL products. These new programmable PLL solutions for multi-mode oscillator systems aid in minimizing inventory issues for users.  The devices achieve this flexibility by allowing configurable solutions to be supported by a single monolithic device that enables dynamic assignment of product configurations just prior to shipment.  Glacier's AnyFrequency™ products offer fully electrically programmable synthesizer solutions up to and beyond 1.5 GHz.  All products are fully programmable using Glacier's patent-pending One-Time-Programmable (OTP) GLink™ memory technology.  Combining OTP memory with world class mixed signal and RFIC experience, Glacier's products span multiple segments across broad market areas through programmability.

The device family is comprised of 30 devices with PLL solutions targeting general clocking applications, focusing on networking equipment, base stations, test and measurement equipment, storage area networks, video and other applications.

The company operates with about a dozen employees.
