ChipStart Expands Global Operations

ChipStart, a value-added reseller of analog and digital semiconductor IP has expanded global operations and has named several EDA veterans to the team.

The company has opened additional offices in North America and the United Kingdom to serve its growing customer base and to continue its business model to be a key supplier of analog and digital semiconductor IP and design tools to the semiconductor industry.

EDA and IP veterans Russell Hayes, Bill Lev, Glen Martini, and Al McConnell have joined the ChipStar team. As part of their joining ChipStart, the company has opened offices in the United Kingdom, Austin, Texas, and Dallas, Texas in addition to its current locations in Silicon Valley, Cambridge, Massachusetts and Toronto, Canada.All will report to Howard Pakosh, president and CEO.
 
ChipStart has also named Russell Hayes, a sales and marketing veteran with over 25 years experience with 10 years in leading edge design, as VP in charge of business development. He has held senior positions in North America with SafeNet, TriCN, Synopsys and DEC; working in research and development, sales and marketing.

Bill Lev comes to ChipStart with over 15 years experience in the semiconductor supply chain including  semiconductor IP licensing, EDA, and design services. Most recently, he was one of the three founders of Liga Systems and served as the director of business development from 2006 to 2008. Prior to Liga Systems, Lev held positions in the semiconductor supply chain at MOSAID Technologies, MoSys, Aptix and Cadence Design Systems.

Glenn Martini joins ChipStart bringing over 25 years of semiconductor design, technical marketing, business, and EDA sales experience. Most recently, he was a founder and investment partner in Quantum Performance, served as VP of operations and a Board Member of KRG Systems.  Prior to Quantum, he held engineering and management positions at Maxim, ST Microelectronics, and NEC Electronics.  In the EDA industry he held design services, technical account management, and sales positions at Cadence, Mentor Graphics, and Synplicity.

Al McConnell has over 20 years experience in ASICs, IP, software and development tools. Most recently, he held positions at Texas Instruments, Qualcomm and Freescale and many other customers with Green Hills Software and ARM as senior strategic account manager at both companies. Prior to this, he held sales and sales management positions at Texas Instruments, IBM, VLSI Technology (later acquired by Philips Semiconductors (Now NXP Semiconductors) and Intel.

ChipStart is a semiconductor IP solution company based in Palo Alto, California. ChipStart provides sales, marketing, and support engagement solutions for companies that commerce third party semiconductor intellectual property, and high quality pre-verified subsystem solutions and supporting design services for ASIC and fables semiconductor companies.

ChipStart's roots began in 1998 as a sales consulting organization. With a new strategic direction, its head office was moved to Palo Alto, CA. In 2008, sales and support offices were opened in Cambridge, MA, Toronto, ON, and Maidenhead, United Kingdom, to address the growing demands from its US- and European-based customers. Over this period, ChipStart has seen growth in its System-on-Chip design consulting and sales business and has continued to expand its skill set to offer additional services.

Howard Pakosh
   Howard Pakosh
The 10-person company is headed by Howard Pakosh who has held sales and marketing roles during the past 25 years.  He previously served as director of sales for Sonics, the leading provider of intelligent interconnect solutions that manage the on-chip communications in System-on-a-Chip (SoC) devices. Earlier, he worked at Virage Logic as director, emerging markets. Pakosh also helped co-found Xentec, a semiconductor IP startup that was sold to InSilicon in December 2000 and is now part of Synopsys.

Mark De Souza, executive VP, has 15 years of marketing and sales experience backed up by 10 years in leading edge design. He has held senior positions in Europe with Virage Logic, Ikos Systems, ST Microelectronics and De Beers; working in research, development, sales and marketing. He was also co-founder of Atinec, a VC funded EDA Startup focusing on simulation acceleration.
