ZeroG Wireless Taps Atheros Exec as its New CEO
June 23, 2009
ZeroG Wireless, a pioneer in low-power embedded Wi-Fi design, named Greg Winner as the company's new CEO -- replacing John Cummins after his two-year stint. Winner comes to ZeroG with over 30 years of experience in the semiconductor industry and brings experience in product development, engineering and operations. He is charged with leading ZeroG Wireless into the next phase of growth for Wi-Fi and the Internet of Things.
Prior to ZeroG Wireless, Winner held executive management roles at several semiconductor companies. Most recently, he served as the GM of the Global Positioning Systems (GPS) Business Unit at Atheros Communications and CEO of u-Nav Microelectronics. The Atheros GPS Business Unit was created through an acquisition of u-Nav Microelectronics, a private semiconductor startup focused on the development of GPS chips and modules. In addition, he served as senior VP of engineering and quality at Applied Micro Circuits(AMCC) and managed product development at Silicon Systems.
ZeroG Wireless recently announced several developments on the ZG2100M and ZG2101M "Wi-Fi I/O" modules. The company signed a multi-year resale agreement with Microchip Technologies, a major microcontroller provider, to accelerate the adoption of Wi-Fi in embedded systems. The ZG2100M and ZG2101M modules have also been certified for complying with wireless standards set by industry and international bodies of regulation and have demonstrated interoperability with Apple's Bonjour technology.
