Luminary Micro in Disti Pact With Arrow Japan
July 25, 2008
Arrow UEC Japan KK, and Luminary Micro, develpers of ARM(TM) Cortex(TM)-M3-based microcontrollers entered into a distribution agreement in Japan. Customers will have access to Luminary Micro's Stellaris microcontroller products through Arrow UEC Japan's sales and support centers in Japan.
Arrow believes that cost effective microcontrollers starting at $1 for ARM Cortex-M3-based processors, Stellaris microcontrollers will be popular with itsindustrial customers. There is a lot of momentum for microcontrollers migrating from 8/16-bit to 32-bit in the Japanese MCU market.
Luminary Micro's Stellaris family of microcontrollers comprise of 100 MCU types, supported by low-cost evaluation kits and full reference design kits, all available through Arrow UEC Japan KK. Stellaris mixed-signal microcontrollers contain specialized capabilities for applications in the energy, security, and connectivity markets. They are targeted at embedded and industrial applications, such as building and home automation; factory automation and control; industrial control power devices; stepper motors; brushed and brushless DC motors; and AC induction motors.
Currently, Japanese tool vendors who are supporting the Luminary lineup consist of ARM KK, Andor System Support (training courses, test consulting, and board development), AXE (Keil C-compiler, debug software tools), IAR Systems KK (C-compiler and debugger software tools, Sophia Systems (JTAG-ICE with support for flash memory programming), Yokogawa (compiler and debug software).
Arrow UEC Japan KK has started out new life as 100% owned subsidiary of Arrow Electronics, a global provider of products, services, and solutions to industrial and commercial users of electronic components and computer products.
Luminary Micro designs, markets and sells ARM Cortex-M3-based microcontrollers (MCUs). Austin, Texas-based Luminary Micro is the lead partner for the Cortex-M3 processor, delivering the world's first silicon implementation of the Cortex-M3 processor. Luminary Micro's introduction of the award-winning Stellaris(R) family of products provides 32-bit performance for the same price as current 8- and 16-bit microcontroller designs, providing entry-level pricing at $1.00 for an ARM technology-based MCU. Stellaris mixed-signal microcontrollers contain specialized capabilities for applications in energy, security, and connectivity markets. With the world's largest selection of ARM-based microcontrollers, Luminary Micro's Stellaris family allows for standardization that eliminates future architectural upgrades or software tools changes.
