Quartics Demos "PC to TV" Wireless Solution at CES

Quartics, an Irvine, Calif. fabless semiconductor company, unveiled a reference design at CES 2008 based on its SoC chip which decodes and transmits a multimedia stream over a 802.11g wireless platform from the PC to a flat panel TV screen. The programmable media processors receives, decodes, scales and renders the video to fit the resolution of the TV. Using an existing Wi-Fi connection, the company's software compresses a signal that can be sent to a small hardware box that is connected to the TV.

Reportedly, Quartics has designed in the chip into D-Link's line of Media Lounge of wireless media players. The company is also in talks with TV makers to integrate the chip directly into the TV so that no external hardware is required.
